About This Flight

Everest Mountain Overfly with Kalapatthar Landing & Breakfast at Hotel Everest View from Kathmandu

The Everest Mountain Overfly with Kalapatthar landing and Breakfast at Hotel Everest View is the complete Everest-by-air experience. A real landing at 5,545 metres, followed by breakfast with a 360-degree Himalayan view, all in a single day from Kathmandu. The flight carries passengers from Kathmandu to Lukla, on to Pheriche, and finally up to Kalapatthar, the same iconic viewpoint that Everest Base Camp trekkers walk days to reach, before descending to Hotel Everest View for a sit-down breakfast and flying home.

The route follows a well-established pattern designed to keep the flight safe at extreme altitudes. From Kathmandu the aircraft goes to Lukla, the gateway airstrip of the Khumbu, and continues on to Pheriche at around 4,240 metres. Here the flight changes shape. The helicopter works up the western flank of the Khumbu, passing close by Everest, Lhotse and Nuptse before touching down on bare rock at Kalapatthar. The halt on the ground lasts about five minutes. It is enough to step out into air this thin, look straight up at the summit ridge, and take the photographs that people come for. Because of the weight the thin air allows, passengers come up in small numbers across the morning, so each group has the ridge to itself rather than sharing the landing.

Once everyone has been up and returned to Pheriche, the group flies together down to Hotel Everest View at Syangboche, where a relaxed breakfast of 15 to 20 minutes is served with sweeping views of Everest, Ama Dablam and Thamserku. From there the aircraft retraces its route through Lukla and back to Kathmandu. It is one of the most complete single-day Everest experiences available: a genuine landing near the summit, followed by breakfast at the world's highest hotel.

Tour Feels Like

What Does the Everest Mountain Overfly with Kalapatthar Landing and Breakfast at HEV Feel Like?

The day begins gently with a scenic hop from Kathmandu to Lukla, which already offers sweeping views of Nepal's mid-hills and river valleys. After a short refueling stop, the flight continues deeper into the mountains, passing over Namche Bazaar and Tengboche before reaching Pheriche, where the terrain opens into the wide, high-altitude Khumbu valley.

The real highlight comes next. In pairs, passengers fly from Pheriche toward Kalapatthar, climbing close past Everest Base Camp and the Khumbu Glacier before touching down at 5,545 metres. The landing itself lasts around five minutes, just enough time to step out, take in a completely unobstructed view of Mount Everest and its neighbouring giants, and capture photos before returning to Pheriche for the next pair to take their turn. While one pair is up at Kalapatthar, the rest of the group waits at Pheriche, where the thinner air and dramatic surroundings are already a striking experience in their own right.

Once every passenger has made the trip up and back, the whole group flies on together to Hotel Everest View, where a relaxed 15 to 20 minute breakfast is served with panoramic views of Everest, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku a welcome, unhurried moment after the intensity of the Kalapatthar landing. From there, the helicopter retraces its route through Lukla and back to Kathmandu. Light turbulence over ridgelines and near the high-altitude landing zone is normal, and every leg of the flight is flown only when conditions are judged safe.

      What you Should do

      • Move slowly and deliberately (do not run).

      Health, Safety & Altitude Guidelines

      AMS & What Doctor Recommend

      Atmospheric Pressure At Kalapatthar

Kalapatthar sits at 5,545 metres, where the air holds roughly half the oxygen available at sea level. Because passengers ascend rapidly by helicopter without the days of gradual acclimatisation a trek would allow, some may notice mild light-headedness, breathlessness, or a headache during the brief time on the ground. Symptoms are usually short-lived given the short duration of exposure, and the descent to Hotel Everest View shortly afterwards brings noticeably easier breathing.

      What Doctors Recommends?

Consult the doctor for any of these if you

      • Have a history of a serious heart condition and unstable high blood pressure
      • Suffer from any chronic respiratory problems like COPD and severe asthma
      • Active pregnancy (especially past your first trimester)
      • Have had major surgeries within the past 6 weeks

Every passenger gets a genuine landing. Because of strict weight limits above 5,000 metres, the helicopter can only carry two passengers at a time above Pheriche, so for larger groups the helicopter shuttles back and forth for five passengers; this means three separate rotations until everyone has had their own landing at Kalapatthar.

Each pair typically gets around 5-10 minutes at the landing site, enough time for photos and to take in the view of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Ama Dablam, before the helicopter returns to Pheriche for the next group.

No. The tour flies over the Everest Base Camp and Khumbu Glacier area but makes its actual high-altitude landing at Kalapatthar, at 5,545 metres.

Yes. The short duration at altitude, combined with pilot discretion over weather and weight limits, is specifically designed to manage altitude risk. Passengers with underlying heart or lung conditions should consult a doctor before booking.

Passengers who are waiting remain at Pheriche while the helicopter completes the other shuttle rotations. Once everyone has completed their Kalapatthar landing, the entire group reunites before continuing to Hotel Everest View.

The shuttle sequence is determined by the crew according to passenger weight, aircraft balance, and operational requirements. Individual requests may therefore not always be possible.
