About This Flight

Everest Mountain Overfly with Breakfast at HEV from Kathmandu

The Everest Mountain Overfly with Breakfast at HEV from Kathmandu pairs a close aerial view of Mount Everest with a proper sit-down breakfast at the highest hotel in the world, all in a single day. The flight carries passengers from Kathmandu to Lukla, on to Pheriche, and then through a close aerial overfly of the Everest Base Camp and Kalapatthar area before descending to Hotel Everest View for breakfast and flying home. No landing, no overnight, no trekking.

The route follows the same operational pattern used across our Everest helicopter tours. From Kathmandu the aircraft flies to Lukla, the gateway airstrip of the Khumbu, then on to Pheriche at around 4,240 metres. Here the flight changes shape. The helicopter works up the western flank of the Khumbu, close enough that Everest's summit ridge and ice flutes, the walls of Lhotse and Nuptse, and the pyramid of Ama Dablam arrive one after another in the windows, each one appearing and then gone within seconds. Because of the weight the thin air allows, passengers fly in small numbers across the middle of the morning, so the aircraft can climb higher and stay longer over the high sections with the group aboard.

Once the aircraft has worked its way up and back over the group at Pheriche, everyone flies together down to Hotel Everest View at Syangboche, where a relaxed breakfast of 15 to 20 minutes is served with sweeping views of Everest, Ama Dablam and Thamserku. From there the flight retraces its route through Lukla and back to Kathmandu. Unlike our landing tours, there is no touchdown at Kalapatthar on this itinerary. The Mountain Overfly with Breakfast at HEV is the faster, lighter option: the same high Himalaya views and a proper breakfast stop, without the extra time a Kalapatthar landing adds.

Tour Feels Like

What Does the Everest Mountain Overfly with Breakfast at HEV from Kathmandu Feel Like?

The tour begins gently, with a scenic hop from Kathmandu to Lukla that already offers sweeping views of Nepal's mid-hills and river valleys. After a short refueling stop, the flight continues deeper into the mountains, passing over Namche Bazaar and Tengboche before reaching Pheriche, where the terrain opens into the wide, high-altitude Khumbu valley.

From Pheriche, passengers fly in pairs on the close aerial overfly toward Everest Base Camp and Kalapatthar, without landing. Each pair gets several minutes of close, unobstructed flying time past Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Ama Dablam before returning to Pheriche for the next pair to take their turn. While one pair is on the overfly, the rest of the group waits at Pheriche, where the thin air and dramatic mountain backdrop are already memorable in their own right.

Once every passenger has completed the overfly and the group has reunited, the helicopter flies on to Hotel Everest View, where a relaxed 15 to 20 minute breakfast is served with panoramic views of Everest, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku. From there, the helicopter heads back toward Kathmandu, stopping briefly at Lukla to refuel before continuing home. Light turbulence over ridgelines and near the high-altitude flight path is normal, and every leg of the flight is flown only when conditions are judged safe.

What to Expect During the Landing

      • Slightly increased heart rate
      • A mild feeling of breathlessness when moving fast.
      • Possible slight headache if you are sensitive to altitude
      • Feeling colder than usual despite similar outdoor temperatures.

      What You Should Do

      • Move slowly and deliberately (don't rush).
      • Breathe steadily and deeply.
      • Stay hydrated (drink water before the flight)
      • Inform the pilot immediately if you feel unwell.
      • Use the supplemental oxygen provided inside the helicopter if needed

      Health, Safety & Altitude Guidelines

      AMS & What Doctor Recommend?

      Atmospheric Pressure

Although this tour does not land at extreme altitude, passengers still pass close to 5,500 metres during the overfly, where the air holds roughly half the oxygen available at sea level. Because the helicopter ascends rapidly without the days of gradual acclimatisation a trek would allow, some passengers may notice mild light-headedness or breathlessness during the flight, even without stepping outside the helicopter. Symptoms typically ease quickly once the helicopter descends to Hotel Everest View for breakfast.

      What doctors recommend

Consult the doctor for any of these if you:

      • Have a history of a serious heart condition and unstable high blood pressure
      • Suffer from any chronic respiratory problems like COPD and severe asthma
      • Active pregnancy (especially past your first trimester)
      • Have had major surgeries within the past 6 weeks

No. This tour is a close aerial flyover of the Everest Base Camp and Kalapatthar area, without a landing at altitude. If you'd like an actual landing at Kalapatthar, ask us about our Kalapatthar Landing tour instead.

Even without landing, flying close to 5,500 meters requires strict weight limits for safe helicopter performance. For larger groups, the helicopter shuttles from Pheriche in rotations for five passengers, this means three separate trips so every passenger gets their own close flying time near Everest.

Breakfast is a relaxed 15- to 20-minute stop, giving passengers enough time to eat and enjoy the panoramic Himalayan views before reboarding for the return flight to Kathmandu.

Yes. The short duration near altitude, combined with pilot discretion over weather and weight limits, is specifically designed to manage altitude risk. Passengers with underlying heart or lung conditions should consult a doctor before booking.

You'll typically need to provide your travel and backup dates, full legal names, passport details, nationalities, and exact body weight, since weight distribution is critical for the high-altitude shuttle flights. Let us know whether you prefer a group-joining seat or a private charter.

The exact reporting and departure time is confirmed the evening before, based on the latest weather forecast.
