About This Flight
The Kathmandu to Timure helicopter flight is the fastest way to reach the northern frontier village of the Langtang region, a scenic transfer that replaces a long mountain drive to the China border with a single comfortable hop along the Bhote Koshi corridor. The helicopter takes off from Tribhuvan International Airport, climbs north through Rasuwa District, and sets down at Timure, the final settlement of Gosaikunda Rural Municipality at about 1,955 metres, in under an hour. On a round tour you spend an hour exploring the village and its frontier atmosphere before returning; on the one-way option you continue your journey toward Rasuwagadhi, the famous Nepal-China border crossing. As every flight is influenced by the weather, the exact duration may vary depending on visibility, wind, air traffic, and the flight route assigned on the day of departure.
The Kathmandu to Timure helicopter flight exists because Timure is the gateway to one of Nepal's most significant frontiers. Lying about 19 kilometres north of the classical trekking town of Syabrubesi and just 3 kilometres south of the Rasuwa Fort at Rasuwagadhi, the village is the last permanent settlement before the border with Tibet, China, and the traditional staging point for pilgrims on the Kailash Mansarovar yatra and for trekkers following the upper Bhote Koshi valley. The overland journey to this point takes roughly 150 kilometres and a full day of rough roads through Trishuli Bazaar and Dhunche, while a helicopter covers the same ground in about 45 minutes over the deep river gorges and the high ridges of Langtang National Park. Flying in means arriving fresh at the true edge of the Himalaya, with the whole frontier and its history at your feet.
We operate the Timure helicopter tour from Kathmandu with the same care and safety standards as every Mountain Helicopters Nepal flight, from the pre-flight briefing to the final landing. On the way your route passes the gorges, terraced settlements, and world-famous river valleys of Rasuwa before the snow wall of the Langtang range rises ahead on clear days. It is especially popular with Kailash pilgrims, travellers crossing or visiting the Nepal-China border, history buffs drawn to the Rasuwa Fort, photographers, and anyone who wants to reach the roof of the world's frontier without a punishing road journey.

Tour Feels Like
Passengers enjoy a comfortable and scenic helicopter flight aboard a modern helicopter operated by experienced professional pilots with years of flying in Nepal's mountain country. The journey is smooth and efficient, combining convenience with one of the most atmospheric frontier flights in the country. Throughout the flight, the pilot ensures a safe and enjoyable experience, allowing travellers to watch the river corridor narrow as the Tibetan border draws closer.
Shortly after takeoff, the Kathmandu Valley gives way to terraced hills and the winding Trishuli gorge, its switchback road a constant reminder of the ground the helicopter is saving. As the flight continues, the settlements grow sparser and the culture increasingly Tibetan in style, with chortens, mani walls, and fluttering prayer flags below, before the snow wall of the Langtang Himalaya swings into view ahead. While occasional light turbulence may be felt when flying through mountain terrain, this is a normal part of helicopter operations, and flights are conducted only when weather conditions are considered safe.
Upon landing at Timure, you step out into a true frontier village, seated on a rise above the upper Bhote Koshi. After safely disembarking under the guidance of the flight crew, you can walk its lanes beneath the prayer flags, meet the Tamang and Tibetan-influenced community, and look up the valley toward the Rasuwa Fort at Rasuwagadhi before re-boarding for the return to Kathmandu - or continuing your onward journey toward the border.
